February 2017 Newsletter Print

    President's Notes

    By Danielle LaFleur, CPP

Happy 2017!  I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season and that year end went smoothly.  I am looking forward to all the great things the new year has to offer.

This month, we will discuss compliance changes through technology.  As we all know, the only constant in payroll is the changes.  I look forward to hearing about ROI analysis and study methods and timing.

Beginning with our March meeting, the price of the luncheon is increasing to $31 for members and $45 for non-members.  Although we have made every effort to keep the prices as low as possible, it was necessary due to the price increase from the hotel.

The chapter has a garnishment seminar to be held on March 23 with presenter Jim Owens, CPP.  Jim is a subject matter expert and the chapter is pleased to welcome his expertise.  Please join us to learn in depth information on all types of orders with emphasis on child support.  There will also be a discussion on best practices and managing the many orders.

The Dallas Chapter needs your help.  We are looking for individuals willing to give back to the payroll community by serving on the 2017-2018 board.  If you have an opinion on the way the chapter is run or would like to impact our industry locally, please contact Barbara Maxwell by emailing het at

I look forward to seeing everyone on the 9th.  ~ Danielle

2017 Changes Bringing More Member Benefits

    By Susan Warren, CPP

Looking forward to a new fiscal year for the chapter, your Board is making lots of plans and looking for ways to provide greater member benefits to each of you.

~ Your Education team is planning a jam-packed year with its usual offerings of CPP and

FPC preparation courses and boot camps, and this year they will also offer a-la-carte

classes.  If you don’t need the full CPP curriculum, but you think a concentration on

Calculations would help you, we’ve got just what you need!

~Programs for Educational Luncheons are lined up with excellent speakers who will bring

great information to share that is timely and important to all of us in our daily tasks.  There

will also be some great PIE events and One Day Seminars for everyone to take advantage

~Community Outreach will continue to seek out local populations that can benefit from our

             time and our giving.

~Look for Membership Drives and Job Fairs hosted by the Chapter, as well as some social

events so we can have some fun together!

Our highlights will continue to be National Payroll Week, Money Matters, and supporting our Texas Payroll Conference, for which Dallas will be a host chapter.  We will continue to meet at the Doubletree for our luncheons where our speakers will present topics yielding 1 RCH ($31 for members, $45 for non-members).

And the best news of all is that our membership dues for the new year are not increasing!  Dues for National APA members will remain at $40, and $55 for those who are not National APA members.

    Membership Corner

    By Brenda Smith, CPP

It’s the beginning of a new calendar year and we are excited about what the future holds for us as individuals and for the Dallas Chapter APA.

If you are looking for something to get involved with, volunteer for a committee:   Education, National Payroll Week, Texas Payroll Conference, Marketing, Social Media, Community Events, Membership, Table Host, etc.  We have opportunities, so just contact me at or speak with one of the board members at a meeting.  We will get you involved.

Hope your New Year is starting off with a bang.  Since there was not an educational meeting in January, no table host responses.

As we begin again in February, I look forward to hearing your comments, suggestions, and getting to know you.
