    President's Notes

    By Lisa Anderson, CPP

Put on your Tracht, your Sari, or your Kolt and get ready for Global Payroll. This Month’s Education and Business meeting focuses on global payroll. This is the first time this year we have had a speaker focus on going global, so don’t miss it. Also, remember that we have moved the meeting time to begin at 11:30am, in response to your request to shorten the meeting time away from work. We are going to have another spin the wheel of {payroll} fortune for prizes before the meeting, so don’t be late. Sharpen up on your global knowledge and win big. Is there a topic that we haven’t presented in a while (or ever)? Please give your suggestions to your table host or one of the Board members. Let’s Make It Happen.

Committee Volunteer Drive was a HUGE success – but there is still time to get on a committee if you missed the meeting. Please email for information on joining a committee and having a BLAST!

Education is out of the gates, running for a certification! The Calculations class is coming up soon and the CPP classes are open for registration.

DREAM is our theme this year, so I want to know what is your Dallas APA dream –  Go to a baseball game, ride the Grapevine train to Fort Worth, backpack through Europe (Ok, well, that last one we can’t do, but you get the idea). Write down your dream of what fun event we can do as a Chapter outing. The winning idea will win a prize.

Don’t stop dreaming, but keep reading…Our great Board has tons of things planned!

    Community Outreach

    By Susan Warren, CPP

For the months of April, May and June, our Community Outreach focus is Our Friends Place in Dallas.

Success looks different for every individual, but at Our Friends Place, they strive for every young woman in their program to meet established goals each year. Our Friends Place measures success with performance-based outcomes in areas that include pregnancy prevention, job-related skill improvement, enrollment in educational and vocational programs, and active employment. Young women who experience abuse, neglect, poverty or homelessness often lack the support and tools they need to lead economically self-sufficient lives, but Our Friends Place emphasizes empowerment, not entitlement. Instead of offering handouts, Our Friends Place guides these young women along a healthy path by stressing the importance of education, career planning, financial literacy and self-reliance. Please help your Dallas APA Chapter support Our Friends Place!

Our 2017 special giving initiative is Williams Chicken Change For A Change. At every luncheon meeting, you will find silver buckets on your tables where you can drop your spare change, just like the collection bins at the Williams Chicken restaurants around Dallas Williams Chicken has long been a tremendous supporter of Dallas APA, so it’s our turn to give back to them and support this great charity where they give back to the community at year end, using spare change collected all year long to purchase winter wear for those who can’t afford to purchase their own!

    Government Update

    By Martha Baxter

    American Health Care Act

The House of Representatives has passed the American Health Care Act (ACHA).  The ACHA would effectively repeal and replace many of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), including the employer and individual mandates.  The legislation faces an uncertain future in the Senate.

New York DOL Appeals Decision Invalidating Burdensome Paycard Regulations

The New York State Department of Labor recently filed an appeal of the New York Industrial Board of Appeals’ decision revoking burdensome regulations regarding payment of wages by direct deposit and paycards because they were invalid.  The appeal will be heard in state court. A decision is not expected for many months.

Potential FUTA Credit Reduction States for 2017

The U.S. Department of Labor released its list of potential FUTA credit reduction states for 2017.  California and the Virgin Islands continue to have outstanding Federal Unemployment Account loans and therefore might be subject to a FUTA credit reduction for 2017. The state and territory were also subject to a credit reduction for 2016.
